Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any substance, providing moisture is present. There are molds that can grow on and within wood, paper, carpet and foods. When excessive moisture accumulates in buildings or on building materials, mold growth will often occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed. There is no practical way to eliminate all molds and mold spores in the indoor environment; the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture.
Some biological contaminants trigger allergic reactions, including hypersensitivity pneumonitis, allergic rhinitis, and some types of asthma. Molds and mildews release disease causing toxins. Symptoms of health problems caused by biological pollutants include sneezing, watery eyes, coughing, and shortness of breath, dizziness, lethargy, fever, and headache.

Allergic reactions occur only after repeated exposure to a specific biological allergen. However, that reaction may occur immediately after re-exposure or after multiple exposures over time. As a result, people who have noticed only mild allergic reactions, or no reactions at all, may suddenly find themselves very sensitive to particular allergens.
It is impossible to get rid of all mold and mold spores indoors; some mold spores will be found floating through the air. The mold spores will not grow if moisture is not present. Indoor mold growth can and should be prevented or controlled by controlling moisture indoors.

We have added Thermal Infrared Camera Inspections to our Mold Inspection services. The tool is mainly used to locate and pinpoint sources of leaks and water intrusion in buildings eliminating the need for destructive source finding. The method is most efficient shortly after a leak occurred and less effective when no moisture remains in the building material. It can collect black and white or color thermal images that can be e-mailed to client or used for documentation in reports. Contact us for a demo or a free “Mold Information Seminar.”
If there is mold growth, you must clean up the mold and fix the water problem. If you clean up the mold, but don't fix the water problem, then most likely the mold problem will come back. Rapid and thorough drying of the building materials is imperative to the prevention of mold growth.
You may suspect hidden mold if a building smells moldy, but you cannot see the source, or if you know there has been water damage and residents are reporting health problems. Mold may be hidden in places such as the back side of dry wall, wallpaper, or paneling, the top side of ceiling tiles, the underside of carpets and pads, etc. Other possible locations of hidden mold include areas inside walls around pipes (with leaking or condensing pipes), cabinetry beneath sinks (where condensation forms), inside ductwork, and in roof materials above ceiling tiles . Dormant mold may still cause allergic reactions in some people, so it is not enough to simply kill the mold, it must also be removed.
People are more susceptible to a fungus when it is in a building. Because of the potential harm, any water intrusion into a building should be handled quickly and professionally.
